CEO DATELINE - Wind energy association expands trade show to cover solar, energy storage

Starting next year, the American Wind Energy Association will expand its annual trade show to include solar, energy storage and other clean energy technologies.
AWEA will kick off its CLEANPOWER exhibition hub in Denver in May 2020, the group announced Tuesday. The association currently produces WINDPOWER, an annual trade show for utility-scale wind energy producers. The show will continue as the "heart" of the new CLEANPOWER event, but with additional space and programming set aside for other clean energy technologies.
"We've welcomed multi-technology businesses at WINDPOWER for years," AWEA CEO Tom Kiernan said in a statement. "Now we're throwing the doors open, creating an even bigger opportunity for companies in wind, solar, storage and other clean energy technologies to learn and do business across the utility-scale power sector."
AWEA has been producing conferences and events since 1974. The group noted its events have evolved along with the industry, with nearly half of WINDPOWER attendees and exhibitors having business units outside of wind power. This year's show emphasized the interplay of different clean energy players and featured remarks by Energy Storage Association CEO Kelly Speakes-Backman.
AWEA plans to announce formal partnerships with solar and energy storage leaders for WINDPOWER in coming months.
